Mr. Schlect has been coaching Logos Mock Trial for several years. He continues to coach Team A with Mr. Dickison, the attorney coach for both Logos teams.

On February 26, 2005, the Logos Team A competed in the North Idaho Regionals in Coeur d’Alene. They earned second place, only a few points behind Team B, yet several points ahead of the other teams.

On March 14 and 15, 2005, they competed in the Idaho State Championship. After two rounds, they moved up to the semi-finals. Then they qualified for the finals, which were against their Team B. Both teams performed their best and the judges, who had not been told which schools were represented, wanted to award a shared victory. Yet everyone agreed that Team A won first place in the state. The judges’ ballots showed that Team A came ahead by an average of two points out of one hundred and twenty.

On the first of April, the Logos A team received the materials for the national competition. It was a law suit case against a bolt manufacturer for the death of a race car driver. They had one month to learn and practice this case. They attended the National Mock Trial Competition in Charlotte, North Carolina on May 6 and 7. The Logos team beat Rhode Island, Arkansas, and New Mexico in the first three rounds. The only loss for the Logos team was in their last round, against the California team, who went on to win first in the nation. The “strong Idaho team” achieved eleventh place out of forty-four teams, the highest ranking for any Idaho team in Mock Trial.
