Logos Secondary School Faculty

The qualities we look for in our secondary (7th-12th grades), i.e. our logic and rhetoric teachers, are somewhat different than the ones we look for in our grammar (elementary) level teachers. Obviously they all must share the fundamentals: a life of love for and obedience to God the Father through Jesus Christ; a love for children, a love for the knowledge they daily impart, and an evident ability to instruct.

Beyond those aspects, the unique qualities we look for in our secondary school teachers include:

  • Understanding, loving, and teaching to the characteristics and frames of young adults, recognizing the unique aspects of both genders.
  • An eager grasp of the necessary logic and rhetoric teaching methods and the reasons for them.
  • A passion for and ability to practically apply those particular methods, while constantly seeking to improve upon them, for the sake of the students’ understanding.
  • The understanding and ability to appropriately help these older students practice self-control.
  • Regularly and naturally point the students to biblical principles within the discipline being taught.
  • An eagerness to constantly increase their own understanding of their particular disciplines, as well as a willingness to expand their knowledge to hitherto unexplored fields of knowledge.

At Logos, God has blessed us with a very mature, experienced group of secondary school teachers who exemplify the above qualities. They share a collegial view of teaching, encouraging and challenging each other in their own learning and teaching. We hire teachers in their field(s) of strength, vs. hiring a teacher just to fill a full-time position, regardless of his abilities or background in all required fields.

By God’s grace, as you can see below, we have a secondary staff that represents not only many years of teaching experience, but also teachers who are parents and even grandparents themselves. This last aspect is a very valuable qualification due to the wisdom that godly parenting brings to teaching.
